The ESMI will use reasonable efforts to include accurate and up-to-date information on this website but makes no guarantees as to its accuracy and expressly disclaims any obligation to update said information. All users agree that they access and use this website at their own risk.
With your agreement to the data protection regulations, you are consenting to the European Society for Molecular Imaging – ESMI collecting, processing and using personal data, subject to the applicable legislation and the following regulations.

2. Data processing on calling up our web pages
On visiting our website, information such as
- IP address
- Access date and time
- Name and URL of the called file
- the website, from which access was made (referrer URL)
- the browser you used and, if need be, the operating system of your Internet-enabled computer and the name of your access provider
will be forwarded to our servers automatically and stored temporarily. This is done for the following reasons:
- Optimising of the call set-up
- Guaranteeing and optimising the user friendliness and handling of our website
- Guaranteeing system security and stability
- and to defend against risks/for prosecution in the event of a cyber-attack.
This anonymous data will be stored separately from your personal data, and thus does not allow any conclusions concerning a given person. It will be analysed for statistical purposes.
3. Cookies
We use cookies on our websites. Cookies are text files that are filed and stored on a computer system via an Internet browser. They are not intended to damage your computer.
In particular, we use cookies, to store settings you have made, such as your regional selection, filter functions or functions provided while browsing inside the platform.
We use process cookies, to ensure our website is working correctly. This includes browsing the website and secure completion of purchases on it.
We also use security cookies, to authenticate you as user and that your user data is safe from unauthorised access by third parties e.g. access to protected platform areas.
We use session status cookies to receive information about the interaction of our users with the website. This enables us to constantly improve and optimise our services. None of the aforementioned cookies contain any personal data and cannot be backtracked to you. Cookies can only identify the computer you are using until they are deleted. The storage period for cookies varies and depends on their purpose.
Cookies are used exclusively to allow you the use of our internet site.
It is standard for most browsers to accept cookies. In your browser’s security settings, you can allow or bar temporary and stored cookies. If you disable cookies, some of our functions may not be available and web pages may not be displayed correctly. However, you can configure your browser setting to not store cookies on your computer.
4. Third party websites
The European Society for Molecular Imaging - ESMI has no control over the contents of third-party websites that can be accessed via our platform, nor over the way these websites are operated. The European Society for Molecular Imaging - ESMI is not responsible for data protection, nor for the contents of these websites. All users agree that the linking of such is at their own risk.
4.1 Use of social media platforms
Our website includes social media buttons that conform to data protection regulations and establish a direct connection to the respective social network. When you click on these buttons, you are redirected to the respective website, leaving our homepage. These social media companies may then associate your visit to our website with your account. We have no knowledge of the data transferred or how it is used by these social media providers. For more information, refer to each social media service’s data protection policy.
5. Media, Videos and Photography
ESMI employs the services of a professional photographer/videographer at ESMI events to capture images and audiovisual (AV) recordings for use in society archival storage and promotional material.
By attending an ESMI event, you acknowledge and agree to grant ESMI the right at the congress to record, film, photograph or capture images in any media now available and in the future developed. Furthermore, you agree to grant ESMI the right to own, use, copy, modify, distribute, broadcast or otherwise disseminate such media at any time and on a global basis without any further approval or compensation.
We sometimes also incorporate videos on our website for display. The incorporation is sub-contracted to third party providers to some degree. If you call up a video, this sets up a link to the relevant third-party server and certain user-related information is communicated to this server. The third-party provider's relevant data protection rules apply for handling this data. The European Society for Molecular Imaging - ESMI does not receive any notification of the content of data collected by the third party in question and has no control over its use.
5.1. Vimeo
We use the provider Vimeo for the integration of videos. Vimeo is operated by Vimeo LLC, headquartered at 555 West 18th Street, New York, New York 10011, USA.
We use plugins from the provider Vimeo on some of our websites. When you access the web pages with such a plugin and click on the video (“double-click”), a connection to the Vimeo servers is established and the plugin is displayed. This tells the Vimeo server which of our websites you have visited. If you are logged in to Vimeo as a member, Vimeo assigns this information to your personal user account. When using the plugin - clicking on the start button of a video - this information is also assigned to your user account. You can prevent this assignment by logging out of your Vimeo user account before using our websites and deleting the corresponding cookies from the company.
European Society for Molecular Imaging - ESMI does not receive any notification of the content of data collected by Vimeo or the third party and has no control over its use.
Your consent as part of the double-click solution is the legal basis for our data processing and third-country transfers. You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future.

6. Recipients outside the EU
We do not forward your data to recipients based outside the European Union or the European Economic Area unless otherwise quoted herein.
7. Collection, processing and use of personal data
"Collection" as defined by the Federal Data Protection Act is the creation of personal data. "Processing" as defined by the Federal Data Protection Act is the storage, changing, communicating, barring and deleting of personal data. "Use" as defined here is any use of personal data unless it is used for processing.
Personal data is collected via our registration system to fulfil the contractual relationship into which we have entered with you, including any later existing warranty rights, for our services (e.g. telephone support), guaranteeing proper book-keeping in our society for administrative purposes and for proprietary marketing purposes.
Clearly, the privacy policy we practise is consistent with the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG, Bundesdatenschutzgesetz) the General Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO Datenschutzgrundverordnung) and the digital data services law (DDG, Digitale Dienste Gesetz). Personal data is stored and processed at all times in the Federal Republic of Germany.
Upon request, we will give you information, correct, block or delete your stored personal data, according to statutory and administrative necessities. Please send a message to registration@esmi-insight.eu or send us your request by post to the above-mentioned management address.
Personal data is distributed only and exclusively if this is required and unavoidable for implementing the contractual relationship.
Depending on the type of payment, we can also forward personal data to third parties for the purpose of making payment. Your data is explicitly NOT forwarded to unauthorised third parties - for example for marketing purposes. Connection data is also stored if required for execution of the contract or to comply with statutory regulations. This is deleted immediately, if the purpose for which storage is required ceases to exist.
8. Personal data
8.1 Data security
To protect your data against accidental or illegal deletion, forwarding, access or against any manipulation or loss, as well as against other misuse, appropriate technical and organisational actions are taken.
An SSL website certificate (Secure Socket Layer) encrypts your data for your security. This is an encryption standard that is also used, for example, in on-line banking. You will detect a secure SSL connection, inter alia, from the s added to http (thus https://…) in your browser's address bar, or on the lock symbol in the bottom area of your browser.
Please remember that security when using the Internet depends on a number of circumstances and cannot be flawlessly guaranteed at all times.
8.2 Use of personal data for attendance registration
There is the option to register as attendee to an ESMI event. A password-protected participant account is created. This data is taken from the website interface that is completed upon your registration. This data is used for internal permanent storage in a password-protected database account. The IP address, date and time of registration are also stored.
The following data collecting and processing is required to complete the registration to ESMI events. Personal data such as your name and titles, contact information such as postal address, phone number and your email address, demographic information such as postcode, preferences and interests, your orders for the event, and other information relevant to your attendance of an ESMI event. The data is communicated to and used solely by the European Society for Molecular Imaging – ESMI. Your email address is used to route electronic communication concerning your attendance registration.
I acknowledge that the ESMI obeys the European Data Protection Guidelines - GDPR. I agree that my given data may be used and processed by the ESMI for the management of the congress registration as well as other ESMI purposes (e.g., distribution of newsletters and other information, events promotion, educational/scientific activities, etc.).
8.3 Use of personal data for conference registration payment
Fulfilment of the contract may require the data to be forwarded to our payment service in line with the selected payment type. The following payment types can be used:

- Credit card (Visa and Mastercard)
We use the services of PAYONE GmbH, Lyoner Straße 15, 60528 Frankfurt am Main, Germany for payment by credit card. Payone Worldline GmbH collects, processes and uses the data entered here exclusively under its own responsibility. The European Society for Molecular Imaging - ESMI does not store this data. You will find detailed information in the PAYONE GmbH privacy policy.
8.4 Use of personal data for communication purposes
If you are a registered attendee of an ESMI event, we process your contact data and inform you about the event and our services, as well as relevant information about any changes.
8.5 Use of personal data for our newsletter and advertising purposes
As a registered attendee of an ESMI event, you are inscribed to our newsletters to receive regular updates regarding our services. The European Society for Molecular Imaging - ESMI distributes the newsletter. We do not share this data with third parties. You can unsubscribe at any time by sending an email to the sender. Your personal data collected in connection with subscription to the newsletter will then be deleted. The data collected in connection with your attendance registration remains unaffected.
8.6 Electronic requests for your feedback
To improve our service, we require your cooperation. We will ask you by email, after an event, for your feedback, to learn whether we meet your expectations regarding your attendance at our events. If you do not wish to receive these requests for feedback, you can revoke this use of your personal data at any time without incurring any costs. For this, simply use one of the communication paths provided (e.g. click on a link to deregister contained in the relevant request for feedback, or by email).
8.7 Deleting personal data
We delete your personal data when the respective purpose of storage no longer applies, and no legal regulation requires retention (e.g. a retention obligation under the German Fiscal Code and/or the German Commercial Code), unless you have expressly consented to continued use of your data or something else has been contractually agreed. If deletion is not possible in individual cases, processing will be restricted.
9. Overview of your rights
9.1. Right to information
You can request information about the processing purposes, category of the personal data, categories of the recipients, to whom your data has been or will be disclosed, the planned storage period and the source of your data, unless this was collected from you directly.
9.2. Right to correction and deletion
You can request the correction of incorrect data or the completion of correct data. You have the right to correct inaccurate data and delete your personal data unless there are legal obligations to retain it.
9.3. Right to data transferability
You can ask to receive data that you have provided by transfer in a conventional, machine-readable format or by communication to another authorised person.
9.4. Right to complain
For this, you can contact the supervisory authority in the Member State of your habitual residence.
9.5. Right to restriction
You can exercise the right to restriction of processing if the accuracy of your personal data is contested, the processing is unlawful and the controller refuses to erase your personal data and instead requests the restriction of the use of your personal data, if the controller no longer needs your personal data for the purposes of the processing, but you need them for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims or if the controller has objected to processing pursuant to Art. 21 GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), as long as it has not yet been established whether the legitimate reasons of the controller outweigh those of the data subject.
9.6. Right to objection
The general right to objection applies for all processing purposes described here that are processed on the legal basis of art. 6 paragraph 1 letter f) GDPR (DSGVO Datenschutzgrundverordnung). Other than data processing that is described under the point "Data processing for advertising purposes", we are required only to act on an objection if you state the reasons of higher significance that arise from a particular situation.
